History of La Verne
The City of La Verne was founded in 1887 and incorporated in 1906. It is nestled in the foothills of the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys, approximately 35 miles east of Los Angeles. La Verne boasts a population of more than 33,000. Although it is considered part of metropolitan LA County, it remains a “close-knit” bedroom community, which fights for its “small town” traditions and virtues.

Government in La Verne
Operating under a council-manager form of government, the city is a municipal corporation. Citizens are shareholders. Elected representatives of its citizens, the La Verne City Council develops and establishes ordinances and policies and acts as a part-time board of directors. They appoint a city manager to conduct the city’s day-to-day affairs. Citizen commissions advise the Council on planning, senior affairs, drug & alcohol resistance and beautification.
